So for the geography teachers out there, I would like to share with you some
ESRI products. ESRI products such as Arcmap is bought by the province and you
can install this software on the computer. There is a mobile app for this but
really it is just a fancy Google Map and I wouldn't suggest it unless you are
using the software. Another ESRI product is the story map and this is where any
classroom can use this map and it is pretty cool. So you need to have your GPS
on for this application to work. This story map will reference the pictures you
take from your for using the GPS coordinates and then you can type stuff behind
the pictures. There is a teacher using this in her English class and getting
the kids to tell a story. This can also be used to take before and after
pictures and make a story.
Another cool app is Microsoft Photosynth, I used this in my practicum and it
creates a 3-d model from still images. So you can take millions of pictures
around a certain object and put the images into Photosynth and create a 3-d
model.
I love the ESRI story maps! Even the ones that are already pre-made for you. I think my favorite one is this one: http://storymaps.esri.com/stories/LandsatCompare/ because it shows how human activity affects the earth.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing Microsoft Photosynth. I will be teaching graphic technology this term and this would be so cool to use for this course. Great resource!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing bud I'll be sure to try some of these apps out in my practicum or over in Thailand teaching!
